Profile: David is the son of former Swindon Town legend Kenny, who made over 300 league appearances for Swindon during the seventies and eighties. David made a surprise breakthrough into the Swindon first team in October 2005 when still a youth team player. With new manager Iffy Onuora previously responsible for youth development, he gave Stroud a chance in a match at promotion chasing Huddersfield, and he responded with a promising performance that drew praise from the boss - his pace giving the Huddersfield defence problems down the left flank. After continuing in the first team the following week, a hamstring injury sidelined Stroud for a period and he didn't appear in the first team again until the New Year when he came off the bench at Hartlepool on January 2nd. It proved to be his last appearance of the campaign. Nevertheless, he was offered a six month contract, with an option for a further six, at the end of the season when his scholarship period ended. In in September 2006, new boss Dennis Wise allowed Stroud to go out on loan to Conference South outfit Basingstoke, where he had previously had a spell on work experience in 2005. After helping Basingstoke reach the Second Round of the FA Cup with a great win over League One Chesterfield, Stroud was recalled to the County Ground, in order to be assessed by new Town manager Paul Sturrock. Six weeks later, Stroud's contract expired at Swindon and Sturrock made what he said was a tough decision to release him.

David joined a growing band of former Town youngsters at Swindon Supermarine in February 2007 and played a major role in winning promotion via the play-offs with a spectacular goal in the final against Taunton Town. David is a very quick and tricky winger who like nothing better than taking on the defence and whipping a dangerous ball into the box. He is a player who thrives with confidence and the more involved he is the more his confidence grows. We have yet to see the very best of David but the management team are sure we are going to do so during the 2007/08 season as he looks to prove his ability is second to none in the Premier League.
