Will Collier be a diamond geezer?...

Mark Collier has never been one to tinker with his tried and trusted 4-4-2 formation, but the Supermarine boss admits even he will have to think twice before pinning his team sheet to the notice board this weekend. Marine entertain Clevedon Town at Hunts Copse tomorrow and with last month's 6-0 Errea Cup humiliation still fresh in the memory, Collier insists he has plenty to ponder.

Supermarine simply couldn't cope with Clevedon's diamond in midfield that night, and Collier could act accordingly by dropping his favoured formation to match the visitors. He said: "Obviously we will remind the lads of that night because nobody likes to lose football matches, especially by such a big score. "I couldn't remember whether it was 5-0 or 6-0 to be honest. "Clevedon were particularly impressive and they were on the back of a good run.

"They play a slightly different system to most teams in this league in that they employ a diamond formation. "We may tinker with our formation because we didn't cope with it very well the last time we played them. "But once the whistle blows it will be 11 versus 11 and as long as the players do their jobs we should be fine."

Marine head into tomorrow's encounter on the back of a six match unbeaten run, and confidence in the camp is high. The Swindon side beat Clevedon 2-1 in the reverse fixture at the Hand Stadium back in August, and Collier is looking to complete a Southern League double when the teams lock horns for a third time. He said: "For me that 2-1 is the bigger result because the league is every team's number one priority. I'm sure Clevedon would say the same. "There's 10 games to go and both sides want to take as many points as they can.

"Clevedon will still think they have an outside shot at the play-offs, but if we beat them we actually go above them. "But I'm not thinking about that. I'm just concentrating on keeping us away from the relegation zone." Gary Horgan and Richard Kear will both be eager for a recall after being rested against Brackley Town in midweek. Marine playmaker Chris Taylor played 60 minutes on Tuesday and will be hoping to get through a full game as he steps up his recovery from a knee injury.

Alex Rigley is the only doubt with a slight shoulder injury, but the manager expects the former Swindon Town winger to win his fitness race. Collier said: "We've got good competition for places now and it speaks volumes when we can rest players of the calibre of Richard Kear and Gary Horgan. "They are both desperate for a re-call, and that's what we want here - everyone scrapping for places."
