Merthyr Tydfil 3

Swindon Supermarine 1

British Gas Business Southern League

Premier Division

Saturday 03.11.2007

Two goals in the final four minutes condemned Supermarine to a 3-1 defeat at Merthyr Tydfil. Tom King's penalty save midway through the second half looked to have earned Marine a deserved point, but Craig Steins was instrumental in the late double to send them back down the M4 pointless.

Marine had to withstand heavy early pressure as Merthyr bombarded them with a series of corners, long throws and balls into the box. They looked to have coped with the onslaught but three minutes before half-time, the hosts finally broke through when skipper Anton Thomas prodded home at the near post from another long throw.

Marine came out strong in the second half and were rewarded 10 minutes in with Richard Kear's first goal for the club. Merthyr had the chance to regain the lead after 65 minutes but King made a fine save from Jamie Rewbury's spot kick after Leigh Henry had been penalised for hand-ball. The game looked to be heading for a draw but Steins' brace with time running out sealed all three points for the home side.
