Two see red!

By Chris Smith (Swindon Advertiser)

Supermarine suffered a 1-0 home defeat to Clevedon Town after being reduced to nine men with Enoch Boateng and Leigh Henry both saw red for the hosts, in a game which had seen them dominate for long periods. Striker Lewis Powell grabbed the game’s only goal, when he rose to direct a free header beyond Marine goalkeeper Matt Bulman after 15 minutes.

Marine had a goal disallowed after just two minutes, when Steve Cook was flagged offside after sweeping the ball home from two yards. Manager Mark Collier was pleased with many aspects of his side’s overall performance, but bemoaned their lack of discipline. He said: “We’ve battered them in the first half, got a little bit sloppy with the goal, but we overcame that and created three or four good chances and their keeper’s made some excellent saves.

The officials, captains and mascots pictured before the game“I was pleased with the way we got the ball down and played, got into wide areas and got it into the box. “We wanted to start the second half the same way, which I think we did, but obviously we’ve had a set back with Boateng getting sent off for a rash tackle. “But with 10 men we still had the impetus to keep passing the ball, and even with nine men we were still playing all the football. They were trying to hit us on the break with long balls . “Obviously we’re disappointed to have lost the game, but we’ll take the positives from it.

“We have played well but at the end of the day, this league is difficult enough to win games in without having to do it with nine men. “It’s a learning curve for us, and the lads have got to learn to sit tight and have a bit of discipline when things aren’t going quite right.” Collier was pleased with the performance of striker Ash Edenborough, who made his first start of the season. “You know what you’re getting with Ash, he works his socks off up front, and it was nice for him to start tonight because he’s missed a lot of pre-season because of his job.” However, despite the encouraging performances of Edenborough and fellow strikers Steve Cook and Nathan Lightbody, they could not breach the Clevedon back line.
