A Polished Performance

Classy Supermarine scored three goals without reply for the second consecutive match as Yate Town were comprehensively swept aside at Hunts Copse. Mark Draycott fired the hosts into a 1-0 lead after 40 minutes with his sixth of the campaign, before second half strikes from Leigh Henry and Luke Hopper rounded off a fine win. It was another polished performance from Marine, who seem to be growing in stature with every game in their second season in the BGB Southern Premier.

Inspired by the brilliant Nick Stanley, the hosts gave manager Mark Collier exactly what he had demanded prior to kick off - a home performance to be proud of. “We were excellent tonight and well worth the win,” said Collier.

“We have put together a team that can pass the ball and that’s what we’re asking them to do, to have confidence in one another. “ We have passed it round a very good Yate side tonight and still managed to keep a clean sheet. “We’re not getting carried away. We might be third but we’re also about six wins from safety.”

After a scrappy opening Marine began to dominate and they got their reward when Stanley teed up Draycott for a near post tap in. The hosts created several good openings in the second half but had to wait until six minutes from time to make the points safe, Henry prodding home after an almighty goalmouth scramble. Substitute Luke Hopper added the icing on the cake with an excellent solo effort in stoppage time.

Despite enjoying most of the play in the first half, late goals in each period consigned us to defeat, although the margin did not give a true reflection of the game. Supermarine took the lead with 5 minutes of the first half remaining when a run from Nick Stanley penetrated our defence and Mark Draycott put the ball into the net. We pushed forward in the second half, but were unable to equalise and two goals in the last six minutes ensured all three points for Marine. Leigh Henry scored following a corner and then sub Luke Hopper scored in the last minute.

Late strikes sink Yate

Swindon Supermarine clinched a 3-0 win over Yate Town in the Southern League Premier Division with two goals in the last five minutes. The home side took the lead in the 40th minute when a run from Nick Stanley split open the Yate defence and created the opening for Mark Draycott to score. Yate pushed forward in the second half in search of an equaliser, but Supermarine sealed victory with two late strikes. Leigh Henry exposed Yate's set-piece flaws to make it 2-0 following a corner, and then substitute Luke Hopper got away from his marker to drive in the third goal with only minutes left on the clock.
