A goal in either half from Steve Cook and Alan Griffin secured the victory for the Southern League table toppers, who have now banked around £5,000 into the club’s coffers from this Trophy run, and even attracted some new faces to watch their comprehensive progression to the next round.

Marine boss Mark Collier admitted: “It was a very good win and a comfortable one as well. We scored two goals at exactly the right time and that helped us. “This competition is worth a lot of money for the club and with Swindon Town being away from home we also had a few of their fans come down to watch. Hopefully they will have liked what they saw and will come back again. “It’s a great time for the club – everyone’s smiling and there’s a great atmosphere around the club. “If you can’t enjoy being top of the league and having a good cup run then when can you?”

Supermarine broke the deadlock just before half-time when Alan Griffin was bundled over inside the box by ex-Trinidad and Tobago defender Ian Cox, and Steve Cook dispatched the resulting penalty. In the second half, Cook and Griffin both went close before midfield dynamo Chris Taylor sealed Marine’s progression on the hour mark, rifling home a right-footed drive from 15 yards. “The rest of the game they threw everything at us but we held firm, defended well and the back four were different class,” revealed Collier.

“We’ve made some changes in recent weeks, putting Sean Wood at right-back and moving Kyle Lapham into the middle of the defence, and so to keep clean sheets in both of our last two games was all credit to them. “Some of the lads have been out on the sidelines but, because of injuries and suspensions, they’re getting a chance now and have grabbed it. The guys coming back will struggle to get their shirts back.”
