Match Report Swindon Supermarine 1 Corby Town 4 British Gas Business Southern League Premier Division Saturday 30.08.2008 By Anthony Marshall (Swindon Advertiser)
Mark Collier has demanded a tougher mental strength from his Supermarine players after witnessing a 4-1 home thrashing by Corby Town. Matt Nolan's double and a goal apiece from Steve Towers and Stephen Diggin condemned Marine to their second home defeat of the season, after Ashley Edenborough had given the hosts an early lead. And Collier believes too many of his players were "feeling sorry for themselves", allowing the visitors an easy afternoon at Hunts Copse. |

"We didn't perform to anywhere near what we have produced already this season, " he admitted. "They were a big, strong and well organised Southern League side with a lot of experience and were a little bit more streetwise than us. "They made it 2-1 with a goal which looked very offside and everyone was angry about it. "Because of that some of the lads started to feel sorry for themselves and when you do that at this level you're in trouble. "The opposition are never going to feel sorry for you - they'll just punish you for it instead."
Front man Edenborough got Marine off to the best possible start after 14 minutes when he burst through to beat Corby keeper Mark Osborn. But 12 minutes later the visitors levelled things up when Nolan chipped Matt Bulman from outside the box. The same player controversially edged Corby ahead, tucking home from close range after Matt O'Halloran's shot had come back off the post. And things got even better for them in the second half as first Towers headed home, and then Diggin put the seal on an impressive Corby performance. Collier bemoaned after: "Overall we were disappointing from our own performance levels.
"Apart from the goal we scored there weren't many positives to take from it, but we've had a chat about it and hopefully it was just a bad day at the office. "Physically we didn't have any problems out there, but mentally we struggled. "We've got to make sure that we play to our strengths and when things are going against us we need to turn them in our favour. We're talking about being mentally strong."
