Match Report Hemel Hempstead Town 1 Swindon Supermarine 1 British Gas Business Football League Southern League Premier Division
Saturday 07.03.2009 By Ben Payne (Swindon Advertiser)
Supermarine boss Mark Collier says the point gained at Hemel Hempstead Town could be a ‘massive’ one in his side’s campaign. Collier’s side secured a 1-1 draw in the intimidating atmosphere of Vauxhall Road and the manager was keen to point out the importance of keeping the tally ticking over He said: “Obviously we’d like to get three points every week, but every point that gets taken is an important one. “It could turn out to be a massive point come the end of the season.”
Marine went ahead in Saturday’s clash when Joe Harris poked home from close range four minutes after the break. Nathan Bowden-Haase hit the post for the hosts and Danny Allen cleared off the line from Paul Edgeworth, as it looked as if it would not be Hemel’s day. But 12 minutes from time Matt Bulman flapped at a cross from Chris Dillon and the ball rebounded into the net off the unfortunate Alan Griffin.
Gary Horgan was given his marching orders for a second yellow card late on, to cap a disappointing finale for the visitors. But an upbeat Collier said: “The teams at the top all seem to be dropping points, which makes our case a little bit easier. “In the first half the pitch was difficult, we were very solid and they didn’t create anything at all really.
“We knew in the second half we’d get a foothold in the game and get more of the ball. We created good chances, unfortunately we didn’t take all those chances. “In the last 20 minutes they put us under an enormous amount of pressure, and got a bit of a lucky break for the goal.”
