Draw leaves Collier feeling blue

Mark Collier struggled to mask his disappointment as a late goal cost his Supermarine side maximum points in their Southern League trip to Bashley tonight. Marine had twice led as they tried to erase the memory of Saturday’s heavy home loss to Hemel, but the hosts hit back to steal a 2-2 draw.

“We’re disappointed if I’m being honest,” said Collier. “Before the game I told the lads we were going out there to win. “Bashley were mounting the pressure on us when we were 2-1 up - they’re a big physical side and it was a real battle, and they got their equaliser five minutes from the end. “Any point away from home in this league is a good point but I suppose it shows how far we’ve come that we’re a bit disappointed.”

Alan Griffin had put Marine in front initially. The same player claimed the visitors’ second, although he’ll have to fight it out with teammate Steve Cook, who insisted he had the final touch.
