Match Report Banbury United 1 Swindon Supermarine 5 British Gas Business Southern League Premier Division Monday 25.08.2008 By Gareth Moorhouse (Swindon Advertiser) A brace from new signing Luke Hopper added the icing on the cake as Supermarine thrashed previously unbeaten Banbury United 5-1 at Spencer Stadium.
The former Chippenham Town striker came off the bench to net twice in the last 15 minutes as Marine maintained their 100 per cent record on the road. Mark Collier’s side had to do it the hard way though, coming from a goal down early in the first half.
Steve Cook put the visitors on level terms heading into the break with a calm side-foot finish beyond the Banbury goalkeeper. A curling free-kick from player-coach Gary Horgan made it 2-1 after 50 minutes, before Chris Taylor timed his run to perfection to stroke home Nick Stanley’s centre. |

There was still time for Hopper to make his mark, the youngster showing calmness under pressure to convert two one-on-one chances late in the game. Despite the win Collier is determined not to let his players get carried away.
He said: “This was a great result without a doubt. “To go anywhere and get a victory in the Southern League Premier Division is good, but to score five goals is a real bonus.
“We have played that well on the road before, but today everything just came together for us in front of goal. “But we won’t get carried away. “The objective is always to reach that 40-point mark and we’re almost a quarter of the way there.
“People can make their judgements about us but we will just go quietly about our business as usual. “We are playing some decent football at the moment and creating lots of chances. Hopefully we can follow this up with another win over Corby.”
