Marine cruise through

Swindon Supermarine avoided an unwanted cup hat-trick as Andover were put to the sword in the Southern League Cup. The 6-2 win for Mark Collier’s men ended their recent knockout competition misery, which had brought defeats in the FA Trophy at Ebbsfleet and Wiltshire Premier Shield to Salisbury in their last two matches. Marine booked a fourth-round home tie against Windsor & Eton next week as they turned on the style in the second half of the tie, which had been switched to their opponents’ Portway Stadium because of concerns over the pitch at Hunts Copse.

Both sides were reduced to 10 men late on in the first half, a Mark Draycott tackle sparking a melee that saw the home side’s James Roden follow the Marine striker off for an early bath. Phil Andrews had given Andover the lead but Ashley Edenborough levelled.

After half time though Justyn McKay put Marine ahead from the spot after Edenborough had been brought down. Edenborough bagged his second before two in two minutes from Alan Griffin added the gloss. Andover pulled another one back, but Edenborough completed his treble before the end.
