Dream
start for five-star Supermarine
By Owen
Houlihan (Swindon Advertiser)
Boss Mark Collier admitted
Saturday’s 5-1 opening-day drubbing of Rugby Town was
better that he dared dream of as the Hunts Copse men got
their Zamaretto League Premier Division campaign off to
a magnificent start.
Collier could find few
faults with his men as a four-goal salvo either side of
half-time put paid to their Midlands visitors in
emphatic style. The manager, who takes his side to
Bashley tomorrow night, said: “We played very well and
we can’t get away from that. “The lads played with pace
and cohesion and after the start where both teams were
feeling each other out, if you like, we just took the
game away from them. “We were strong and compact
throughout and it was just a very good team performance.
There
was lots of good passing and movement.’’ Summer signing
Mark Barnes (pictured) went close for Marine early on
but the scores remained level until 10 minutes before
half time when Justyn McKay finished off some decent
work by Joe Harris.
Right on the whistle,
Barnes did get off the mark to make it 2-0 and the
destiny of the points was settled soon after the restart
as Harris netted a penalty and Alan Griffin fired him
goal number four. Chris Taylor’s foul on David
Kolodynski allowed the Rugby player to pull one back
from the spot. But it was merely a consolation as Taylor
made an impact at the right end of the pitch to score
Marine’s fifth.
Collier added: “We’ve
talked about if you get eight or nine performing to an
eight out of 10 standard each week, then you have got a
good chance of being successful. “I would think all 11
would get eight out of 10 for that match. “Every manager
would have wanted to get off the mark with a positive
result, so in that respect, I’m very pleased.’’
