Collier's men draw a blank
By Ned Payne » Swindon

Wayward finishing prevented
Swindon Supermarine securing a win at home to Atherstone
Town on Saturday in their final pre-season friendly. The
Hunts Copse outfit had to settle for a goal-less draw
against the Southern League Division One Midlands
outfit.
The
visitors made a lively start and Shaun Boothe went close
with a header early on. After skipper Kyle Lapham was
forced off with a head injury, Supermarine carved out
their first opportunity on 19 minutes when Nick Stanley
nodded over the bar. The home side had Matt Bulman to
thank for keeping the score at 0-0 when he tipped Shylo
Thomas’ 25-yard half-volley onto the crossbar, just
before half time.
After
the interval Luke Edwards dinked a volley into the
Supermarine stopper’s arms following a quickly taken
free kick. Tom Weale’s overhead kick was the best the
visitors could do in the remainder of the half, while
Sam Wade spurned two late opportunities for Marine.
Lapham
required stitches for his head injury but is expected to
be fit for Saturday’s league opener against Rugby Town.
Another boost for Marine saw Justyn McKay play for just
short of an hour - his first minutes since returning
from a long-term ankle injury.
