Supermarine
and Highworth draw a blank
By Ned Payne » Swindon
Advertiser
Swindon Supermarine and
Highworth Town played out a goal-less draw in a
pre-season friendly at Hunts Copse tonight. The hosts
controlled the early exchanges and Joe Harris had a shot
cleared off the line inside the first 40 seconds.
Leigh Henry, Alan Griffin
and Ash Edenborough all went close, while Richie
Crockett stroked wide when clean through at the other
end. The visitors grew in confidence as time went on and
Paul Cooper worried Matt Bulman with a dipping
half-volley shortly after the half hour.
The
best chance of the match came five minutes before the
break when Highworth's Danny Hilder struck the base of
the post after seizing on a weak back-pass.
Most of the second half
opportunities came in the first 15 minutes. Matty
Bennett sidefooted wide for Highworth before Ash
Edenborough lobbed over the bar for Supermarine. Mark
Barnes scuffed into the arms of Ian Gill and the
visiting stopper then saved superbly with his left foot
from Danny Allen.
The game fizzled out in the
final half hour, although Chris Taylor (pictured) lifted
an audacious 40-yard lob just over the bar.
