Clevedon Town hit for six
by Swindon Supermarine
Swindon Supermarine ended
their run of five successive Southern League Premier
Division draws with a thumping victory at fellow
relegation-battlers Clevedon Town on Tuesday night. Mark
Collier’s troops recorded a priceless 6-2 victory over
the Seasiders to leapfrog their rivals in the table and
draw level on points with Bedford Town.
The visitors rattled the
woodwork twice before taking the lead on 18
minutes
through Ash Edenborough. Luke Hopper added another soon
after and Nick Stanley extended the advantage further on
31 minutes. But Clevedon’s Craig Loxton and Ollie Barnes
both netted to pull it back to 3-2 at half time.
Midway through the second
period Hopper grabbed his second and on 84 minutes
Stanley completed his brace. In the final minute, Steve
Cook put the polish on the
victory with a sixth goal,
leaving boss Collier
delighted.
“As
an
attacking force we looked the business,” he said. “We
raced into a 3-0 lead and were a bit unfortunate to
concede through a set piece. “Then they got another goal
very quickly, so at half time it was a different team
talk. “The next goal was obviously the vital one and
after we got that we went from strength to strength. “To
score six has obviously left
Clevedon very demoralised.
“We are very content with it. We needed something from
the game and it just takes a bit of pressure of us when
we play Cambridge on Thursday night.”
