Marine strike out at Banbury
Swindon Supermarine’s
trying schedule of three games in five days seemed to
take hold last night as Mark Collier’s men let slip a
1-0 half-time lead to lose 3-1 to Banbury United in the
Southern League Premier Division. Nick Stanley
(pictured) gave the visitors the lead after 38 minutes,
but David Staff levelled matters eight minutes after the
restart. David Stone then put the home side in front on
73 minutes before Jason Taylor secured all three points
for Banbury with a little under 10 minutes remaining.
Collier
admitted fatigue may have set in to a Marine side who
were forced to play throughout the second period without
a recognised striker after both Stanley and Steve Cook
had to be withdrawn due to injury.
“We had to have a little
re-jiggle and it didn’t help,” said Collier. “We got a
little bit disjointed in the second half and Banbury’s
fresh legs started to tell.” The Hunts Copse boss
believed his team could have put the game out of
Banbury’s reach before the break, but was not too
dispirited with the overall display.
“We conceded two sloppy
goals though, and could have been three up at half
time,” he said. “After the number of games we have had
this season it is understandable to lose, but we are
disappointed because we wanted a strong end to the
season. “In the last 25 minutes we looked a bit jaded.”
