Henry's back but Marine are still beaten
NOT even the return of
former Supermarine hero Leigh Henry could save the South
Marston side from a disappointing 1-0 home defeat
against 10-man Weymouth last night.
An integral part of the
side that helped Marine into the second round of the FA
Cup this season, centre-half Henry left for Conference
outfit Bath City in the new year but a lack of
first-team action meant he was allowed to get some match
practice in the old blue shirt - although it is likely
to be a brief cameo.
Marine caretaker boss Matt
Robinson said: “Leigh came in for the game and played 60
minutes for us but I think Bath will want him back for
Saturday so it was probably a one-off. “He hasn’t played
a great deal for them so he needed some game time.”
Marine didn’t concede while
Henry was on the pitch, even though Weymouth were the
better side in the first half. Ed Palmer was sent off
early in the second period for stamping on Jamie Prictor,
leaving the door wide open for Marine to capitalise on a
numerical advantage against a side struggling in the
Southern Premier drop zone.
The hosts rattled the frame
of the goal and had efforts cleared off the line before
Warren Byerley swooped with a last-minute sucker-punch.
“At the end of the day you expect to get three points at
home against 10 men,” added Robinson. “You’ve got to
remember they are fighting for their lives at the bottom
of the league but it’s still a disappointing result from
our point of view.”
