Collier's
TV stars win in league again
Supermarine’s shadow strike force gave
Mark Collier a selection headache last
night after news that the club will be
an FA Cup headliner on ITV. It was
announced yesterday that Marine’s second
round trip to League One Colchester
would be one of the ties given extended
highlights on the channel’s round-up
show - meaning a further boost to the
South Marston outfit’s bank balance.
Collier said: “We get £6,750 for the
highlights plus half the gate up there
so it’s great news for the club
financially and we also get more
exposure.
“I never
really expected us to be one of the live
games because you had the possibility of
MK Dons and Wimbledon but now that’s out
of the window it’s opened up for us to
be given a bit more coverage.” The extra
exposure clearly acted as an incentive
to the players last night as Collier
fielded several fringe players in a
comfortable 3-0 Southern Premier
Division win over visiting Tiverton.
Front pair
Luke Hopper and Steve Cook both netted
on the back of another good showing in
the victory at Evesham on Saturday and
several of the cup run’s bit-part
players are now giving the boss a
selection dilemma ahead of the FA Trophy
meeting with Lowestoft and, more
significantly, the Colchester clash.
Collier added: “Hopper’s scored two in
two, Steve Cook put himself about on
Saturday and scored a great diving
header tonight and Justyn McKay has done
well again in midfield. "They are giving
me food for thought and they are doing
their themselves no harm at all ahead of
the two cup games and they’ve also aided
our cause in the league along the way.”
Hopper
broke the deadlock after half an hour,
following up McKay’s blocked effort.
Nick Stanley then doubled the lead just
before the hour mark, picking himself up
to score from the spot after being
fouled. Tiverton’s chances of a comeback
disappeared entirely when they had a man
sent off before Cook netted the third
with 10 minutes left, finishing off a
superb team move to head home Ben Wells’
cross.
