Jacob's glee tempered by
City defeat
Jacob Erskine (pictured)
scored on his debut but it was not enough to prevent a
2-1 home defeat for Swindon Supermarine at the hands of
Southern Premier high-flyers Salisbury City on Wednesday
night.
Erskine, who recently
arrived on loan from Forest Green Rovers, opened his
account for Marine after just nine minutes, when he
headed in Nick Stanley’s cross after Sam Morris helped
it on. But the lead lasted all of 12 minutes as
ex-Chippenham Town man Jake Reid struck from outside the
box to level matters, and Jamie Turley pulled off the
same feat after 34 minutes.
Marine were left to regret
a couple of missed chances by Sam Morris and a misjudged
effort from Steve Cook as they went into the interval
2-1 down. The second half was even and despite their
attacking intent late on, Marine were unable to force a
goal as they suffered their third successive league
defeat.
“We were disappointed with
the result because we felt the performance deserved a
minimum of a point,” said boss Mark Collier. “We were
good value for something, but when our chances came
along we didn’t work the keeper enough.”
