Unrecognisable Swindon
Supermarine side slip to cup defeat
Mark Collier watched an
‘unrecognisable’ Swindon Supermarine side slip to a 4-3
extra-time defeat at home to Hungerford in the Southern
League Cup last night. The Supermarine boss rested all
of his first team players ahead of Saturday’s big FA Cup
clash with Eastwood Town.
However, Collier was
pleased with the performance of the players who
deputised - in particular David Bampton, returning from
injury and in turn playing himself into the squad for
the weekend. Jeremy Newton gave Marine an early lead
before local rivals Hungerford levelled. Nick Peare put
the home side back in front but again Hungerford bounced
back to equalise. Nick Peare's second-half goal edged
Supermarine back in front only for the visitors to level
for a third time to force extra-time. And 10 minutes
into extra-time, Hungerford grabbed the winner.
Speaking after the game,
Collier said: “The side was unrecognisable from the
weekend and the one which will play on Saturday. “Those
rested all trained and I was pleased to see David
Bampton back. We dragged him off early last night in
readiness for the weekend. “Now we look to the weekend
and it is really exciting. There is a real buzz around
the place at the moment and hopefully we can keep the
run going.”
