Match Report by Swindon Advertiser

Derby stroll for Marine

Marine boss Mark Collier was surprised at how comfortable an afternoon his side enjoyed in their Southern League derby with Cirencester on Bank Holiday Monday.

The Webb’s Wood crowd were expecting a blood and thunder affair but got a stroll in the park as Marine bossed possession and should have won by more than Ben Wells’ solitary early strike.

The midfielder’s decider arrived on 11 minutes after he was slipped in by Nick Stanley and slotted past former Marine keeper Matt Bulman. Despite that blip, the Cirencester shot-stopper starred on his return to South Marston, pulling off a string of good saves to twice deny Steve Cook and then frustrate Chris Taylor.

“It was a good result, the only disappointment I have is that we haven’t improved our goal difference by more,” said Collier. “I was surprised by how comfortable it was. “Cirencester come with a certain style of play, they like to get the ball forward early and put you under pressure, but they haven’t once tested out goalkeeper and if there was a man of the match it was Bulman and that tells the story really.”

The win moves Marine four points behind Chippenham with three games in hand after the Bluebirds were hammered 4-0 at Salisbury - all of the goals coming in the first half.

Report from an Cirencester perspective match report

Think this reporter was watching another game, as the report states that we were the only side taking a 'physical approach' ?. I take it he wasn't watching his sides number 11 then, Kyle Lapham certainly was when he had to leap a couple of feet in the air, otherwise his very late tackle would have done some real damage!
