Another cup
win for Marine
Supermarine
saw off lower-league opposition in the FA Trophy first
qualifying round on Saturday as their fine cup form this
season continued.
Mark Collier’s side were
4-2 winners over Southern League Division One Central
outfit Beaconsfield SYCOB at the Webb’s Wood Stadium,
with the goals coming courtesy of Jamie Gosling, Steve
Cook, Luke Hopper and Leigh Henry.
Marine have now hit eight
goals in their last two games but boss Collier revealed
afterwards that he felt it was not the best of his
troops’ recent performances. “We were below par from the
last few weeks,” he admitted.
“We
were a little bit off the pace in certain areas and
didn’t play with our normal tempo, but we were always in
control of the game. “It was one of those games where if
they had scored two we would have scored four and if
they had scored four we would have scored six.”
Jamie Gosling put Marine in
front early on with a quickly-taken free kick, before
Aaron McLeish equalised after latching onto Matt
Robinson’s weak back-pass and slotting home.
Four minutes after the
break, Beaconsfield were reduced to 10 men as Gary
Edwards was sent off for tripping Steve Cook in the box,
but Nick Stanley’s penalty was saved. Cook then nodded
Marine into a 2-1 lead and substitute Luke Hopper added
another midway through the second period. McLeish
grabbed his second to set the nerves of the home support
jangling, but centre-back Leigh Henry made sure of the
win with 15 minutes left.

Swindon Supermarine 4-2
Rams
An Arran McLeish double was
not able to stop Beaconsfield SYCOB being dumped out of
the FA Trophy at the first attempt.
Darron Wilkinson's Southern
League Division One Central side put on a brave showing
at Premier League opponents Swindon Supermarine.
They fell behind after just
15 minutes in Wiltshire as Jamie Gosling struck but the
Rams, now without a win in five league and cup outings,
pulled level three minutes before the break as McLeish
scored his fifth of the season. Parity lasted nine
minutes after the break as Supermarine raced into a 3-1
lead through goals from Steve Cook on 54 minutes and
Luke Hooper 11 minutes later.
McLeish handed Wilkinson's
side a lifeline with his second of the game three
minutes later but Leigh Henry wrapped up the win for
Swindon with 15 minutes to go.
