'We have to be
more ruthless' -
Mark Collier has urged his
Supermarine side to “be more ruthless” in the final
third after they crashed to a 5-1 defeat away at
Stourbridge yesterday. Kyle Brady hit a hat-trick for
the Glassboys, while Paul McCone and David Plinston also
hit the back of the net, before Marine’s solitary reply
came in stoppage time from Steve Cook. And while boss
Collier insists his side’s performance wasn’t as bad as
the scoreline suggests, he know one big area for
improvement. “We have to be more ruthless – it’s as
simple as that,” he said.

“We have to make sure we
work the keeper quicker and better, not take that extra
pass or touch in and around the area, and just try our
luck instead. “Our approach play is excellent, but it is
the final ball or delivery which is not good enough at
the moment. “We’ve got the players here capable of doing
it, it’s just a case of getting it out of them. “We
started quite well and played a lot of decent football,
but without a cutting edge. “We didn’t work their
goalkeeper enough, whereas they earned their luck and
punished us. “The strange thing was our football was
okay but it is a results business we are in and we
didn’t look as though we knew how to win a football
match. “We knew how to play football, but not win a
match.”

The game was goalless and
there was little between the sides until Stourbridge
broke the deadlock just past the half-hour mark.
Supermarine’s defence failed to deal with a free-kick
into the box and Brady forced the ball home. And from
that point the hosts cut loose. Just six minutes later
Brady nodded in at the far post to give them a two-goal
advantage, and defender McCone netted in the 59th
minute. Brady completed his hat-trick on 76 minutes with
a left-footed effort which crashed in off the bar and
Plinston made it five soon after when the ball bounced
in off his back. Marine’s best chances came from Chris
Taylor and Jamie Gosling before substitute Steve Cook
grabbed a consolation in injury time.
