Stanley penalty bags
Marine a point
A first half strike from a
former teammate of David Beckham was not enough to deny
Swindon Supermarine a point at Hednesford Town in the
Southern League Premier Division on Tuesday night.
Kyle Patterson, who
featured several times for US club LA Galaxy last year,
gave hosts Hednesford the lead after 15 minutes, but
Marine levelled matters three minutes before the break
when Nick Stanley fired home from the spot.
The 1-1 result meant Mark
Collier’s men are now six games unbeaten in all
competitions, with an away trip to Banbury to come in
the league on Saturday.
They suffered an early
setback against the Pitmen yesterday evening when
Patterson’s speculative 25-yard shot deflected off the
leg of Gary Horgan and squirmed under Mark Scott in the
Marine goal.
But the South Marston
outfit got themselves on terms just before the break, as
Leigh Henry was clearly shoved over in the box and the
in-form Stanley converted confidently.
Marine might have snatched
all three points late on but Leigh Henry saw his header
cleared off the line. “It was a well-deserved point,”
said Collier, pictured above. |
