GOOD NEWS AND BAD NEWS FOR
SUPERMARINE
There is never a good time
to drop points, but for Swindon Supermarine, Saturday’s
1-1 Southern Premier draw at basement side Halesowen may
not prove expensive. Nick Stanley’s second-half strike
was cancelled out by Andre Hinds in the dying moments,
but the match was overshadowed by the possibility of
extinction for the Yeltz.
Owner
Godfrey Ingram has stopped bankrolling the club over an
article in the local press, which revealed he faced a
lawsuit in the United States which included claims of
racketeering. And chairman Graham Ingram then released a
statement saying Halesowen would cease trading if
benefactors did not come forward.
Should
that scenario play itself out, Supermarine would drop
four points, while higher-placed Stourbridge would lose
three, but local rivals Chippenham, currently two places
above Marine, would be worst hit with six points chalked
off.
And bearing that in mind,
Marine joint caretaker boss Matt Robinson said:
“Although it’s not a great way to gain points, you take
it. “It was a bit disappointing not to to beat them, but
fair play to them, they had nothing to lose because
there’s a chance the club could go out of existence.
“They
played with no fear which makes it harder. We’ve had
some real big efforts in the last couple of weeks and
there were a few tired legs out there. “The first half
was a bit of a nothing game but in the second half we
started a lot better and got ourselves in front. “But
with a couple of bad decisions they caught us on the
break and they nearly won it at the end.”
Stanley gave the visitors
the lead just after the hour mark when he collected
joint boss Gary Horgan’s throw-in and cracked home from
20-yards. Hinds smashed Justin Nisbett’s pass into the
net in the 87th minute and then Nisbett rattled the post
deep into injury time.
