Marine
Hit Top Half
Marine moved into the top
half of the Southern League Premier Division after they
secured a emphatic 4-1 win at Didcot Town. The South
Marston side found themselves 1-0 down after three
minutes but Jamie Gosling (pictured) replied with an
effort of his own just after the half hour. The
midfielder fired home twice more in the second half to
complete a superb hat-trick before Ashan Holgate rounded
off the victory in the 73rd minute.
From a
Didcot perspective:
From a Didcot Perspective
Before we give full credit where it's due, we have to
reflect on another home defeat last night (the 5th in 6
League matches) and a Didcot performance which
disappointed just as much as Saturday's reverse at
Almondsbury. Quite how a side that beat Hemel just a
week ago plays with so little confidence and conviction
only the players will know. What is clear is next
Saturday's trip to Halesowen takes on far greater
significance and a better performance is surely the
least the travelling Didcot fans (who made the trip to
Bristol and who will take the journey at the weekend
into the Midlands) will deserve.
Anyway, back to last night
and even the most die-hard Didcot supporters will
recognize the outstanding performance given by
Supermarine who won 4-1 and could have won by more.
After a brilliant early Morgan Williams goal it was
backs against the wall stuff against probably the best
performance by a League side we've played so far this
season.
But eventually the pressure
told: Jamie Gosling duly struck a sensational hat-trick
and underlined why so many recognize he's playing at a
league or two at least below where he should be playing;
and Ashan Holgate added a fourth. Just to show how
important Gosling was to the visitors, when he was
substituted with 15 minutes to go the game was at last a
contest with both sides creating and missing good
chances. But by then, it was all too late.
