Marine's play-off push
is held up
Swindon Supermarine’s
Southern League play-off push stalled tonight as traffic
on the M25 ruined their preparations for the trip to
title-chasing Cambridge City.
The team arrived late and
were duly caught cold, losing 2-0. Manager Mark Collier
refused to blame outside influences though, claiming his
players simply underperformed. He said: “We arrived late
because of traffic but that does not excuse the way we
played.
“It was 0-0 at half-time so
by the second half we should have settled down but we
were poor.” Craig Hammond fired the hosts ahead midway
through the second period after Marine’s earlier offside
appeal fell on deaf ears.
The Swindon side pushed for
an equaliser and Jamie Gosling squandered a good opening
before Cambridge broke and David Kolodynski put the game
to bed.
Sam Morris had wasted an
earlier chance and Nick Stanley and Steve Cook also had
openings but Marine scarcely deserved anything from the
game.
